Believe it or not, we’re already in the LAST 90 DAYS of the year! That means the holiday season is rapidly approaching. While the season is a great opportunity to reconnect with family and friends over delicious meals, they can also bring with it the temptation to slack on our daily fitness routines. With all of the tempting desserts and snacks, seasonal celebrations can definitely keep us from making progress both at the gym and in our goal to maintain a healthy lifestyle. That’s why every year during the Thanksgiving holiday, NewCov CrossFit hosts its annual Gobblers and Gobblettes competition.
We’ve all heard of the traditional Thanksgiving Day race and turkey trots, but for the last 5 years, NewCov CrossFit has held a special competition specifically for CrossFit members. Open to members through the Cincinnati, Kentucky, and Tennessee areas, the Gobblers and Gobblettes competition is a great way to sneak in your holiday workout with your friends, family, and CrossFit community. This event isn’t only for seasoned members, but it’s also a great way for newcomers to meet over 400 members of the community and experience what a CrossFit competition is all about.
The competition is divided over two days, starting with the Scaled division on Friday for CrossFit newcomers, or those who prefer a little less competition and a little more fun. For those who love competition and are “in it to win it” are encouraged to participate in the Rx division on Saturday. Each male/female team will choose a team name (get creative!) and will complete a series of WODs. At the end of the day, each individual short-timed WODS will be used to calculate each team’s total time. The final 8 teams will advance to the finals. For those participating in the Scaled division, the finals will be held at an intermediate level, while the finals for the Rx division will be advanced WOD.
Based off of Jason Khalipa’s debut in “Every Second Counts,” the final event will be much longer…but definitely more exciting! The team ranked in first place will get to start first, followed by the second and third place teams. Each team will start by the amount of seconds they are behind the 1st place team. The team who wins first takes home the gold!
Not only is this event FUN, but it’s also a great way to build friendships and strengthen your relationship to the NewCov community. There’s a place for you at Gobblers and Gobblettes even if you don’t feel like participating this year. There will be raffles, concessions, and opportunities to get involved! If anything, come see the hilarious outfits that people come up with and cheer them on during the festivities. It’s going to be a fun, exciting way to celebrate Thanksgiving and take a moment of gratitude for our health and support systems.
Get ready to work up an appetite and don’t forget to sign up!
